The cause for T2DM is clear and is caused by insulin receptor insensitivity. Multiple factors have been found to affect this, and these may also affect the ability for those with T1DM to absorb insulin:

-Nitrates/nitrites

-Sulfates/sulfites

-Omega 3 deficiency

-Chromium deficiency

-Vanadium deficiency

-Incorrect Calcium/Magnesium ratios

So, what can someone do? For all Diabetics, different things benefit and hinder them in different ratios. While T1DM is considered incurable, T2DM has many individuals completely reverse it. The main problem for T2DM is that the insulin is not able to work optimally, so we need to help it by essentially doing the opposite of the list above:

Reduce/eliminate nitrate, nitrite, sulfate and sulfite consumption; make sure to take (via supplements or foods) omega 3, chromium, vanadium, calcium, and magnesium. Alcohol can also be a hindrance to control. Reducing inflammatory foods, such as gluten and dairy, can also be very helpful, depending on the person. Additionally, learning about carb ratios is important and very individual – for additional help, seek a licensed health professional.
