Diabetes Mellitus, commonly just called Diabetes, is a prevalent and debilitating condition which is part of the lives of millions of Americans. There are two main types, and this is because of the differing mechanisms that cause similar effects and symptoms. Type-1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) is, simply put, the failure of the Beta cells to produce insulin.
Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is the inability for the body to correctly use the insulin that it produces, due to the receptors for the insulin being blocked or desensitized. A clearer analogy is the common lock and key analogy; where T1DM has the lock but no key, T2DM has the lock and key, but the lock needs to be cleaned out to have the key fit properly.
The cause for T1DM is not always clear, but there are several ideas behind it:
-A mineral deficiency of chromium, vanadium, and possibly selenium (studies are unclear about selenium). Inflammatory and/or oxidative damage triggering epi-genetic predisposition.
-Viral or fungal infection triggering epi-genetic predisposition.
-The consumption of dairy during fetal development in a pregnant body is lactose intolerant.
-Most Medical Doctors will say it is genetic even though they do not say when the genetic marker is while we have already mapped out the entire human genome.
